The Dragon Parade will start from the Civic Centre at approximately 12.30pm moving on through the City Centre to a demonstration area at the Bargate monument.
金龍大巡遊於下午12點三十分由市政廳廣場出發，巡遊至市中心，並在Bargate 紀念牌坊前表 演區演出，部分巡遊隊伍於表演後將繼續巡遊至 Grosvenor Casino。

At the Civic Centre:

The event will officially start at 11am at the Civic Centre with the Mayor of Southampton performing the traditional ceremony of ‘dim jing’. This involves dotting the eye of the dragon. It is a symbolic ritual to bring the dragon to life, the eyes of the dragon are painted which helps to ward off evil spirits and welcomes a year of prosperity.
新春慶祝節目於上午十一點在市政廳外廣 場正式開始。首先由修咸頓市長主持金龍 點睛儀式，象徵金龍飛舞，驅走邪靈，迎 接繁榮的新的一年。
This will be followed by a series of superb traditional Grosvenor Casino.
Chinese cultural performances including:
- Dragon and lion dance by Waterside Lion Dance Club
- Firecrackers
- Chinese Folk Songs by Women’s Group of Chinese Association of Southampton
- Chinese music and folk dance by the Phoenix Art Group of Southampton
- Martial Art Display by Wu Tan Martial Art Club

In order to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Mayor of Southampton City Council (Cllr Brian Parnell) held a reception in conjuction with the
Chinese Association of Southampton (修咸頓華人協會) on Sunday 25th January.
2009 is the year of the Ox - It is thought that people born in the year of the Ox have characteristics which include being dependable, patient, methodical and calm, hardworking, materialistic as well as an ambitious character. President Obama was born in the year of the Ox!
