US Airways is planning to launch flights from Philadelphia to Edinburgh from May 2014.
The carrier, which is due to complete its merger with American Airlines next month, will run daily flights to the Scottish capital between 23 May and 1 October 2014.
The move is another boost for Edinburgh which is already set to benefit from a new service with United from Chicago which is also due to start in May 2014.
The new Edinburgh-Philadelphia flights, which are likely to operate under the banner of the new enlarged American Airlines, will use a Boeing 757 featuring 176 seats in two classes.
The flight from Edinburgh will leave at 10:50 for arrival in Philadelphia at 13:35. The return flight departs at 20:50 for arrival in Edinburgh at 08:40 the following day.
US Airways already flies from Philadelphia to Heathrow, Manchester, Glasgow, Dublin and Shannon.
